Sonata for Violin and Hammer

Through deconstruction and sculptural reassembly, the violin is stripped of its ability to be played and emerges with the new purpose of visual expression. Using the Chaconne from Bach's Partita in D minor for solo violin, the music is fragmented and interspersed with the real-time recording of the instrument's demise under the head of a hammer. Lit from the front, the shadows of the erupted violin are cast against the blank manuscript-papered wall.

The installation was presented at the Grand Parade Gallery in Brighton, UK in February 2006
